Refund Policy
This Refund Policy explains when and how you can obtain a refund for purchases of the Architecture Practice Lab services provided by Matthias Bohlen (“we,” “us,” or “our”). It supplements our Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy.
Our merchant of record
Our order process and payments are handled by our online reseller Paddle.com, who is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries relating to billing and handles the processing of refunds on our behalf. When you request a refund under this policy, the refund is issued to the original payment method you used at checkout.
Paddle also operates its own standard buyer refund policy. This policy describes the terms we apply where they go beyond, or differ from, Paddle's standard terms. Where this policy is silent, Paddle's standard policy applies.
Statutory right of withdrawal (EU / Germany)
Because our services are sold under German and EU law, consumers in the European Union generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance purchases, beginning on the day the contract is concluded. Within this period you may cancel for any reason and receive a full refund.
Digital content delivered immediately. Our services are digital content and online access that we make available to you immediately after purchase. In accordance with § 356 (5) of the German Civil Code (BGB) and Article 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive, your statutory right of withdrawal expires once we begin providing the digital content — provided that you have expressly agreed to immediate provision and acknowledged that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal. You give this consent at checkout before payment is taken.
If you have not yet started or accessed the purchased content, your 14-day right of withdrawal remains intact and you are entitled to a full refund.
Our voluntary refund terms
Beyond the statutory minimum, we want you to be satisfied with what you buy from us.
- One-time purchases (courses, exercises, lab access). If you have not substantially accessed or completed the purchased content, you may request a full refund within 14 days of purchase.
- Subscriptions. You may cancel a subscription at any time; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not provide pro-rated refunds for the unused portion of a billing period that has already begun, except where required by law.
- Renewals. If you were charged for a renewal you did not intend, contact us within 14 days of the renewal charge and we will review the request in good faith.
When a refund may be declined
We may decline a refund request where:
- the statutory right of withdrawal has lawfully expired (see above) and the voluntary refund window has passed;
- the content has been substantially consumed, downloaded, or completed;
- there is evidence of fraud, abuse of this policy, or violation of our Terms and Conditions — for example, repeated buy-then-refund behavior.
Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer rights you have under applicable law.
How to request a refund
You can request a refund through either channel below. Have your order details ready — the email address used at checkout and, if available, your Paddle order or receipt number.
- Through Paddle (our payment provider). Because Paddle is the Merchant of Record, Paddle handles billing support and processes all refunds. You can request a refund directly from Paddle's buyer support at paddle.net or by replying to the Paddle payment receipt you received by email.
- Through us. Email us at
support@mbohlen.deand we will arrange the refund with Paddle on your behalf.
Either way, the actual refund is issued by Paddle back to your original payment method — we never process the card payment ourselves. Most refunds require Paddle's approval before they are released. We aim to acknowledge requests sent to us within 3 business days; once a refund is approved, it may take several additional business days for the funds to appear, depending on your bank or card issuer.
Chargebacks
If you believe a charge is incorrect, please contact us before initiating a chargeback with your bank or card issuer. Because Paddle is the Merchant of Record, a chargeback is investigated by Paddle and the payment issuer, and may take longer to resolve than a direct refund request handled under this policy.
